A mayor in California has proposed giving free fentanyl to his city’s homeless to kill them off.
“Quite frankly, I wish that the president would give us a purge. Because we do need to purge these people,” Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris said, referring to the horror movie and TV series, where murder and mayhem are legalized for 12-hours every year under the pretext that this period of wanton violence will allow the rest of the year to be harmonious and peaceful in the land.
When questioned, the mayor said he stood by his words, calling his solution ”innovative,” but also added he did not expect his words to be taken literally.
“I was talking about the criminal element that were let out of the prisons that have now become 40 to 45% of what’s referred to as the homeless population,” Parris said. “They are responsible for most of our robberies, most of our rapes, and at least half of our murders…There’s nothing that we can do for these people.”
Of course, he provided no data to back up his stigmatizing claims.
Taken literally or not, a review of the comments section on the story shows many people are cheering him on. Here are some of the comments:
“Truth hurts sometimes but this mayor is right and it’s how most of us feel at this point.”-Jason
“The criminal element cannot be rehabilitated. There is nothing that can be done for them. They are the dregs of society who will never reform.”-Ken
“I’m with it. You must remove the narcan for it to effectively work, though.” -Joshua
And on and on the hate goes.
For a country that often proudly proclaims its Christian values and founding, the principles of mercy, kindness and love for thy neighbor are lacking in many parts of our country, and certainly in the Lancaster, California Mayor’s office and the comments section of Yahoo news.
